On 4-5 October 2021, a special workshop on historical and civic education took place in Krzyżowa.
A group of 50 students and teachers from Wroclaw Secondary School No. XIII took part in a special screening of the film "Jack Strong" (directed by Władysław Pasikowski), and then participated in a debate - organised in hybrid form - in which Dr Jacek Kołtan and Prof. Pierre-Frédéric Weber talked about the phenomenon of "Solidarity" and the fall of communism in Central Europe.
The event was organised by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and the Paweł Włodkowic Institute as part of the project 'Festival of unSettled Ideas' which is being carried out in Poland, Germany and Romania as part of the programme 'Europe for Citizens - Remembrance of Europe's Past' and is co-financed by the European Commission.
On 16 September, the Lower Silesian Film Centre in Wrocław hosted a special screening of the documentary 'Invaders Despite Their Will. Polish participation in the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968'.
The screening was combined with a meeting with the filmmakers and witnesses of the time - soldiers who took part in the invasion. Together with students from Secondary School No. XIII in Wrocław the film was watched by the protagonists of the film: Tadeusz Oratowski and Henryk Wrona, as well as Markéta Bernatt-Reszczyńska - the author of the documentary.
The screening was followed by a discussion which involved not only the memories of the witnesses of history, but also a broader reflection on historical memory.

The film is based on interviews with witnesses of time: Polish soldiers who took part in the intervention of the Warsaw Pact troops in Czechoslovakia in August 1968, and Czechs who watched their dreams of building socialism with a human face fall. It tells about the way Poles perceived their participation in the military intervention and about the reactions of the Czechs.
